It’s only May, but we have yet another early candidate for catch of the year.
This time courtesy of Blue Jays center fielder Kevin Pillar.
With the Blue Jays up 4-0 in the sixth inning, pitcher Marcus Stroman was facing some trouble, with two on and two out and Indians’ Jose Ramirez at the plate.
Ramirez crushed the pitch, which appeared it would score two runs, but Pillar had other plans.
The center fielder dove back toward the wall to make the catch while landing on the warning track inches away from the wall.
Stroman was fired up, waiting for Pillar at the dugout before leaping up to celebrate with him.
It’s going to be tough to top that one.
