Would you buy a car simply because Tom Brady endorses it?
Aston Martin is about to find out, as the car company and the star Patriots quarterback have entered into a long-term partnership.
“As a long-time fan and driver, I am honored to join the Aston Martin team at this special moment in the company’s history,” Brady said in a statement.
Even if Brady driving the 2017 DB11 would entice you to purchase it, you’d still have to convince yourself it’s worth paying about $ 212,000, the reported base price tag for the car.
But even the British car marker admits this deal is more about brand than bucks.
“We’re looking for partnerships that make the brand resonate and to make sure people know who we are,” Laura Schwab, Aston Martin’s North American president, told ESPN.
Part of the partnership involves a content series that will feature Brady sharing what drives him.
The five-time Super Bowl winner will also create his own version of the company’s 2018 Vanquish S. According to ESPN, only 12 of those cars will be created and made available for purchase. You know, because he wears No. 12.
Per the Aston Martin press release, Brady’s new 2017 Aston Martin DB11 – hand built in the U.K. – can go from 0-60 mph in less than four seconds. We assume that’s with properly inflated tires.
Brady seems like a great partner for any company, given his football resume and celebrity status, but the quarterback is no stranger to controversy. He was suspended the first four games of last season for his role in the Patriots’ Deflategate scandal.
He’s also now under the microscope after his super model wife Gisele Bundchen revealed to CBS that Brady suffered a concussion during the 2016 season, and that “he does have concussions.” Brady was not listed on any injury report this past season as having a concussion.
