Michael Oher’s disturbing Instagram photo has people worried about the NFL veteran’s health.
The Panthers offensive lineman – whose inspiring rags-to-riches story was the subject of both a book and a 2009 Hollywood hit “The Blind Side” – posted a picture on social media Thursday that featured 10 pill bottles with the caption “All for the brain smh.”
Oher, who has been in the NFL’s concussion protocol for more than eight months, quickly deleted the post, but not before the picture caught the attention of the Panthers and others around the NFL.
“I don’t know if Michael posted that photo or not,” Panthers GM Dave Gettleman said, via the NFL team’s website. “Regardless, my primary interest is Michael’s health.”
The veteran lineman played just three games for the Panthers last season before a concussion knocked him out for the rest of the season.
Oher is also dealing the legal issues in Tennessee after he was alleged to have pushed a Nashville Uber driver to the ground after an argument on April 14. He has a court appearance scheduled for July in the case, per the Charlotte Observer.
Gettleman told Panthers.com that he flew to Nashville in early May to meet with Oher since the two had not spoken since early March.
“We really had a great visit,” Gettleman said. “We talked about a lot of things – nothing about football. It was about him, how he was doing and the issues he was dealing with.”
The GM admitted that “the communication has stopped” a few days after that May in-person meeting.
“Our No. 1 priority is a healthy Michael Oher,” Gettleman said. “This is not about football, this is about Michael.”
The Panthers – Oher’s third team after previous stints with the Ravens and Titans – have a mandatory minicamp scheduled for next week.
