Mets’ Jay Bruce exits early with back tightness

It never ends with the Mets. Jay Bruce left Tuesday night’s game after the fifth inning with what the team announced was “back tightness.” The right fielder had just attempted to make a catch over the side wall, climbing up awkwardly.

The Mets already have had 11 players go on the disabled list this season. Currently, they have eight players on the DL, including their best hitter, starter and reliever.

Yoenis Cespedes is still working his way back from a strained left hamstring and not expected back until at least Monday. Noah Syndgergaard is out with a torn right lat muscle and won’t be back for months. Juerys Familia may not be back this season after surgery to deal with an arterial clot in his right shoulder.

Also on the DL are Asdrubal Cabrera (thumb), Travis d’Arnaud (wrist), Steven Matz (elbow), Seth Lugo (elbow) and David Wright (neck/shoulder).
