Phillipine leader Rodrigo Duterte has mocked Kim Jong-un amid rising tensions in the region
The Philippine president, who is renowned for his no-nonsense style, did not hold back over the dictator and North Korea‘s missile tests.
As tensions escalate on the Korean peninsula and the United States threaten to hit back, Mr Duterte warned the impending nuclear war “must be stopped” in a furious tirade.
He said: “This Kim Jong-un, a fool … he is playing with dangerous toys, that fool.
“That chubby face that looks kind. That son of a b***h. If he commits a mistake, the Far East will become an arid land. It must be stopped, this nuclear war.
“A limited confrontation and it blows up here, I will tell you, the fallout can deplete the soil, the resources and I don’t know what will happen to us.”
Next weekend, Manila will play host to foreign ministers involved in the standoff on the Korean peninsula in a bid to reduce the tensions that continue to threaten global stability.
Mr Duterte is the chairman of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) and his foreign minister will host the ASEAN Regional Forum, which brings together 27 countries including Australia, China, India, Japan, Russia, North and South Korea and the US.
In April, Mr Duterte urged the US not to be baited by Kim Jong-un, who he claimed “wants an end to the world”.
Philippine leader Rodrigo Duterte has also branded Obama a ‘son of a b***h’ in the past

In a dig at US President Donald Trump, Mr Duterte said: “There seems to be two countries playing with their toys and those toys are not really to entertain.
“You know that they are playing with somebody who relishes letting go of missiles and everything.
“I would not want to go into his Kim’s mind because I really do not know what’s inside but he’s putting mother earth, the planet to an edge.
“Who am I to say that you should stop? But I would say ‘Mr. President, please see to it that there is no war because my region will suffer immensely’.
“I will just communicate to Trump, ‘just let him play… do not play into his hands’.
“The guy Kim Jong-un simply wants to end the world, that is why he is very happy. He is always smiling.
“But he really wants to finish everything and he wants to drag us all down.”
US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who is due to attend next week’s meeting, said yesterday the Trump administration has no plans to topple the regime.
Addressing the North Korean dictator, Mr Tillerson said: “We’re not your enemy.
“We do not seek a regime change, we do not seek the collapse of the regime, we do not seek an accelerated reunification of the peninsula, we do not seek an excuse to send our military north of the 38th parallel [the border with South Korea].
“We’re not your enemy, we’re not your threat but you’re presenting an unacceptable threat to us and we have to respond.”
US & South Korean forces launched a missile into the East Sea in response to Pyongyang’s latest test
Tensions were ramped up on Friday when Pyongyang launched a ballistic missile towards Japan, marking North Korea’s 14th test of 2017.
The intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), which is believed to have landed in Japan’s exclusive economic zone, was launched just one day after the 64th anniversary of the armistice that ended the Korean War.
It is believed to have flown for 45 minutes and travelled 600 miles before landing in Japan’s exclusive economic zone, according the nation’s chief cabinet secretary Suga.
He maintained the launch is a clear breach of UN resolutions and declared Japan “absolutely cannot” tolerate North Korea’s repeated provocations.
South Korea, China and the US are among other nations to condemn the launch as the international community desperately tries to agree a plan to end Pyongyang’s warmongering.
