Brigitte Trogneux, 64, is celebrating with her husband Emmanuel Macron, 39, after he defeated Marine Le Pen in the French election today.
Who is Emmanuel Macron’s wife?
Mr Macron has been dubbed “chou-chou” (a teacher’s pet) by French media because of his marriage to his one-time high school drama teacher.
Ms Trogneux, who is 24 years older, first met the future French president when he was 15 years old and she was a 40-year-old married mother-of-three.
“He wasn’t like the others,” Brigitte told a French documentary last year. “He wasn’t a teenager. He had a relationship of equals with other adults.”
At 17, Mr Macron’s parents sent him to Paris to continue his studies after learning about his relationship with Brigitte.
His mother has revealed that she initially thought that her son was interested in Brigitte’s daughter Laurence, who was one of his classmates.
“We couldn’t believe it. What is clear is that when Emmanuel met Brigitte we couldn’t just say ‘that’s great’,” she told Anna Fulda, author of Emmanuel Macron: A Perfect Young Man.
Mrs Macron reportedly told Brigitte: “Don’t you see. You’ve had your life. But he won’t have children with you.”
Emannuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Trogneux could become the new first couple of France
The couple have not revealed at which point their relationship became romantic.
Brigitte, 64, is quoted in the book as saying: “Nobody will ever know at what moment our story became a love story. That belongs to us. That is our secret.”
What is known is that by the time Mr Macron left his hometown for Paris, he had already vowed to marry Brigitte one day.
After he had moved, the couple would “call each other all the time and spend hours on the phone”, Brigitte said.
“Bit by bit, he defeated all my resistance, in an amazing way, with patience.”
Brigitte, whose family owns Jean Trogneux – a luxury chocolatier and macaroon maker, eventually divorced her husband and moved to Paris to be with Mr Macron.
They married in 2007. When Mr Macron became finance minister, Brigitte took an informal role in his administration.
His former chief of staff Alexis Kohler said: “She attended agenda meetings when he was a minister. She is a woman who’s involved in the life of her husband.”
Mr Macron has said that if he was elected then his wife will be given a formal but unpaid position.

“If I’m elected — no, sorry, when we are elected — she will be there, with a role, and a place,” he said on March 8.
“I owe her a lot, she helped make me who I am.”
In October, Brigitte told reporters: “I’ve been involved in everything at his side for 20 years.
“You always seem surprised that spouses are beside their husbands. It’s time for things to evolve. That’s where we belong.”

Does Emmanuel Macron have children?
Mr Macron is stepfather to Brigitte’s three children – including Tiphaine Auzière, who works on his campaign. He is a step-grandfather of seven.
In April, the presidential frontrunner told BMFTV that he decided at a young age not to have any children of his own.
“We have chosen not to have children. A choice that was not selfish for me,” he told BMFTV.
“It is a choice that has been assumed, which I had to make very young given the age difference.
“I did not need my biological children and grandchildren to give them as much love as I gave them.”
